Reviews of Nothing But A Dream
RAVE - 21-AUG-01
However Kelly dresses these songs, it comes down to his almost intuitive
grasp of the way his words and music can invite you into his space
with some almost offhanded immediacy, then hold you there with the
depths gradually revealed within. Welcome to Kelly country. You
might want to stay for a while.

COURIER MAIL - 17-AUG-01
For the most part, the feel here is warm, quiet, initmate, like
Kelly singing for you in your lounge room. And if you can listen
to a song like If I Could Start Today Again without feeling the
raw emotion, you haven't done much living.
4 STARS.
XPRESS - 16-AUG-01
This is possibly where the key to Kelly's skill lies, he twists
where you expect a turn and smiles when you expect tales of pain.
Expect something great though, and he'll deliver every time.
WEST AUSTRALIAN - 16-AUG-01
Kelly finds empathy with all and tells our stories with remarkable
clarity. His ability to give his music a real depth of emotion is
unsurpassed.

DRUM MEDIA - 14-AUG-01
It's the familiar territory of sex, death, family and friends. It's
a damn good, solid. craftsman-made record. You were expecting anything
else?
THE AGE EG - 17-AUG-01
This is Paul Kelly chasing his muse, staring down mortality and
trembling with the ache and wonder of love, the joy and terror of
simply being alive. Nothing But A Dream is an album of great humanity
and quietly heroic proportions and that is what makes it such a
revelation.
4 AND A HALF STARS.
THE AGE - GREEN GUIDE - 23-AUG-01
Nothing But A Dream marks a return to the instrospective, perspective
songwriting which he excels, while throbbing to an edgier urban
beat.
TV WEEK - 25-AUG-01
With his distinctive vocals, this is another awesome album by Paul.
The current single Somewhere In The City and Would You Be My Freind
are brilliant.
9/10
RHYTHMS - 01-AUG-01
There are mood shifts, varying musical backdrops, differing emotions
permeating the album and, like a good book, it is full of enough
ideas to have you revisiting it frequently. Nothing But A Dream
sounds like an instant Paul Kelly classic.
TIME OFF - 15-AUG-01
Australia's pre-eminent songman, Paul Kelly doesn't make bad albums:
it's more a question of how good. His first solo work since 1998's
Words and Music, ...Nothing But A Dream is a solid return and given
time, will sit proudly in his back catalogue.
