ONE NIGHT THE MOON WINS TOP TWO AWGIE AWARDS

MusicArtsDance Films production ONE NIGHT THE MOON
picked up two of the most coveted prizes at the Australian Writers
Guilds 2001 AWGIE awards this weekend winning John
Romeril with Rachel Perkins both the "Best Television Original"
and the events major award the Golden AWGIE.
With the screenplay written by John Romeril (THE FLOATING WORLD)
and Director Rachel Perkins (RADIANCE), the film is driven by a
music
narrative based on the true story of a young girl who went missing
in the Australian outback in 1932. Musical Director Mairead Hannan
composed the music with Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody, who wrote the
lyrics together.
Starring Paul Kelly, Kaarin Fairfax, Kelton Pell, David Field,
Chris
Haywood, Ruby Hunter and Memphis Kelly, ONE NIGHT THE MOON
has also been picked up for the Hawaii International Film Festival
(November 2001), and the Moondance International Film Festival in
Colrado (January 2002), where it is already a first-round quarter-finalist
in the Best Feature Film category.
The film has already screened at the international Ethno filmfest
in
Germany; the Melbourne and Brisbane International Film Festivals,
and will screen in the New York International Independent Film &
Video Festival in September and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)
Festival in October.
ONE NIGHT THE MOON is a collaboration between the AFC, NSW
FTO, SAFC, ABC, Opera Australias OzOpera, and MusicArtsDance
Films, produced by MusicArtsDance Films Aanya Whitehead and
Paul Humfress, with Kevin Lucas acting as both Producer and Executive
Producer. MusicArtsDance Films also co-produced PaulCoxs NIJINSKY,
which screens in the Masters Section of the Toronto International
Film Festival this week, and is due for Australian release in 2002.
ONE NIGHT THE MOON will be released in Australia by Dendy
Films on 8 November 2001.
