l/n : Moon Over Melbourne is a collection of Melbourne
songs performed by Melbourne based artists. It
grew from ABC Radio 3LO's desire to both
celebrate and contribute to Melbourne's rich and
diverse contemporary musical culture.
The songs have been recorded by 3LO and by
Triple J FM and the creation of this collection
is made doubly significant by the fact that it
also celebrates the 150th anniversary of the
founding of the City of Melbourne in 1842
The project was conceived, co-ordinated and
produced by James Griffin.
nb : The songs are NOT all songs about or
originating from Melbourne; some of them were
chosen because it was felt they had the right
'feel'. [A.Tupper@bom.gov.au]

Author's Note :
This book is a collection of song lyrics written
between 1984 and 1993 presented in rough chronological
order and grouped around the albums _Post_ (1985),
_Gossip_ (1986), _Under The Sun_ (1987), _So Much Water
So Close To Home_ (1989) and _Comedy_ (1991). These
albums provide the chapter headings for _Lyrics_ with
the titles in lighter type indicating songs not included
on a particular record but written at that time. In many
cases these songs were B-sides, one-off sings or were
recorded by other singers. Some of them appeared
eventually on the compilation album _Hidden Things_
(1992).
The sixth chapter, _Funerals and Circuses_, contains
songs from the play of the same name, written early in
1992 and first performed in March of that year at the
Adelaide Festival. _Miscellaneous_, the final chapter,
covers the period from early 1992 to early 1993 and
includes many songs written for other people. Somewhere
amongst the rest is my next record.

Sleeve notes:
Paul Kelly's song lyrics comprise soe of the finest
poetry written in Australia and Don't Start Me
Talking illuminates the way we live. Sometimes he
does this with a haunting and savage intensity.
Sometimes with humour, always with a lightness and
simplicity that belies the complexity of the world he
is singing and writing into being.
In addition to his lyrics, Kelly has written songs with
and for many other artists, including Renee Geyer,
Jenny Morris, Vika and Linda Bull, Joe Camilleri,
Yothu Yindi and ARchie Roach. They lyrics encompass his
writing from 1984 to 1999 and are grouped by album in
chronological order.
Theatre, scores and official soundtracks
1992 Theatre FUNERAL AND CIRCUSES
Acted in and wrote 11 songs for the play, first
performed at the 1992 Adelaide Festival and later the
